Tourism ¬¬¬¬¬¬¬¬¬¬¬¬¬¬¬¬
Strengthening Illinois’ Tourism IndustryAs Chairman of the House Committee on Tourism and Conventions, I am actively involved in promoting Illinois’ attractions. In fact, several of the attractions are located within our own 5th District. This is beneficial to our community because increased tourism creates not only employment opportunities, but also economic development to our neighborhood, making it an investment in our quality of life.
In 2009, I again extended a tax credit that I created, called the Film Production Services Tax Credit. This successful tax credit was implemented to revive Illinois’ struggling film industry. In addition, this credit offered economic incentives for production companies that film in Illinois and hire local workers. This credit also granted special incentives if minorities were hired, or filming took place in less fortunate neighborhoods.
As a result, my program not only created 26,500 new jobs in Illinois in 2007, but also generated a record $155 million in new revenue.
